Best Books of 2023

I read a total of 68 books this past year, which I am really proud of! My goal was to read 45 and I just blew past that. My book tastes are kind of all over the place, but I love a good memoir, self help and beach read/romance. So in no particular order, here are my favorite books I read last year.

Crying in H Mart – I loved this book. It made me laugh and cry. Written beautifully by Michelle Zauner about growing up bi-racial and dealing with her mother’s tragic death, she really had me crying in H mart. Highly recommend if you like memoirs and coming of age books.

Lessons in Chemistry – This book was fabulous and incredibly popular! It is now a TV show on Apple TV, which I still need to watch. It follows a woman in the 50s who is a chemist and becomes a tv show cook. It was such a fun read.

Demon Copperhead – This is one of the saddest books I read this year, but Barbara Kingsolver does no wrong. It follows a boy in Appalachia struggling with poverty and addiction. Worth the plunge.

A Promised a Land – This is a long one but I listened to it on my commute and I just love listening to Barack talk and his thoughts on his presidency. Definitely recommend listening to the audiobook version.

Honorable Mentions

Shark Heart – This was such a strange book, but I still really enjoyed it. It is a “love story” that follows a woman and her husband who turns into a great white shark. Sounds weird, but it’s worth a shot.

The Great Alone – I love Kristen Hannah’s books and this one was great, but very sad. I started reading this on vacation and had to start a different book because it was too sad. It follows a family in the 70s that escape to Alaska and all the drama that ensues.

Happy Place – I love Emily Henry and I always look forward to when she releases a new book. This wasn’t my favorite Emily Henry book, but enjoyable nonetheless. A great beach read.
