What I’ve Read Recently – January

I am getting this post up so promptly and I am proud of myself. I just finished my last book of the month on the 31st, so I am good to go for January and have already ordered my next book. My goal for 2022 is to read 30 books, so I needed to get off to a fast start!

The first few books of the month are very much romance/beach reads and I always enjoy those kinds of books, but I finished the month with a heavy-hitting non-fiction book that I cannot recommend enough if you care about the environment. Let’s jump in!

It Happened One Summer – I got this book for Christmas and read it while I was on PTO over the holiday and I finished this so fast because I needed to know how it ended. This was very spicy and I was definitely not expecting it. This would be a great book to read on vacation and it gave Schitt’s Creek vibes.

Troubles in Paradise – This is the third book the Paradise series by Hilderbrand and it was the perfect ending to the trilogy and was exactly what I needed to escape the sub zero temperatures here. Recommend if you are looking to start a series and need a beach read.

The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo – This is the second book I’ve read by Jenkins Reid, the other being Malibu Rising, which I talk about here. I loved this book. It had some twists that I didn’t see coming and the story-telling was excellent. I need to read Daisy Jones and the Six next by the same author.

Braiding Sweetgrass – I kept seeing this book on the best book lists on various websites, so I finally ordered it. This book was completely different than any other book I’ve read. Kimmerer weaves stories about plants, growing up being Native American and her experience being a biologist beautifully. I highly recommend giving this book a try.

What I’m Reading Next

The Unhoneymooners – This book was recommended to be while I was on Amazon looking at other books, and I liked the cover so I added it to the cart. The plot sounds like it will be a romantic read in Hawaii, which sounds like a great escape read while it is winter here in Chicago.
