How to Style a Bed – Neutrals

I feel like I am pretty happy with how my bed looks and I wanted to dedicate a post to how I styled everything. For some context, I have bought many of the items here over the course of months because bedding is so expensive and have been gradually switching things out. I also don’t *love* the bed frame, but I don’t hate it and will keep it for now with the plan to eventually using it in a guest room at some point.

To start, get some sheets. We have the Brooklinen classic cotton sheets. We’ve had these for almost 2 years now and the’ve held up really well. They are reminiscent of hotel sheets, so crisp and cooling. We have an old duvet cover from Target. Eventually I would like to replace that with one from Brooklinen, but for now the Target one is doing the job.

I stuck with whites and creams for all the bedding for several reasons. One is I think it makes the space light and bright. Second is that white bedding is very easy to clean and can be oxi-cleaned or bleached. White sheets and towels are preferable because you can see when they are dirty, which I heard on TV from a hospitality expert. I use the OxiClean white revive to wash all the bedding and towels and I swear by it.

I based the scheme off of the Parachute Cloud Quilt, which I waited to buy until it went on sale. I did a full review of it here, but long story short I love it and I think the two toned colors and texture of it add something really cozy to the space.

I had some old feather accent pillows that had some covers I didn’t really like anymore, so I swapped the covers out with some very affordable cream ones from Amazon. This is a really good tip if you don’t love your accent pillows anymore – swap the covers if they come off with some new ones to refresh them.

My overall formula to style a bed is as follows: start with your sheets. You could have white sheets as a neutral base, or get a sage green set for example to have some color peak through. Then get a duvet cover. Stick with a similar sheet color and then add a quilt over top. I love all of Parachute’s quilts. The quilt adds texture and some nice layering. Lastly, add accent pillows or a lumbar pillow. Target has some great pillows right now or get new covers for your old pillows you don’t love anymore. I also looked through Parachute’s instagram for examples of beautiful homes to see how they styled their bed so I could emulate that vibe. I find that this warm, neutral styling is super cozy and relaxing at night and makes me just want to jump into bed at the end of the day.
