Our Positano, Capri and Rome Italy Itinerary – 2022

We just got back from our European Summer Vacation and I will definitely be doing a series of posts about our trip to the Amalfi Coast and Rome. This trip was our first as a couple going international and it was a bit of a beast to plan. I consider myself a pretty good itinerary planner, but this being international, and between three different locations I was a little stressed about how I would piece this whole trip together! Now that we’re back, I can say it went off without much of a hitch. We were gone for 9 days with the majority of the trip being on the Amalfi coast and flying in and out of Rome.

I had never been to Italy before, so I read a lot of different blogs and watched videos on where to go and for how long. I ended up on wanting to go to Positano after seeing it everywhere for years. I also wanted to go to Florence, but we didn’t have enough time in the itinerary to add another city, so that will have to be next time! I think we did the perfect amount of time in each place for how long we had total for our trip. Let’s dive in!

First Up, Positano

We landed in Rome at 9:00am and hopped on next high speed train to Naples. We then got picked up and driven the rest of the way to Positano. This is where we spent the bulk of our trip. We spent 5 days in Positano and stayed at an BnB right next to Hotel Poseidon. I didn’t really plan too much while we were here. I knew we would want to go to the beach and eat a bunch, which we definitely did! Positano is very popular so some reservations would be helpful. If you want to do a boat ride, book that in advance as well.

Next, Capri

We then took a fast ferry from Positano to spend two days on Capri. I decided to do two days on Capri instead of just doing a day trip. I had read that spending more than just a few hours here was worth it and I agree. Capri town and Anacapri are packed during the day with all the day trippers and the island really quiets down at night. We again didn’t have a ton booked while we were here, other than a boat ride around Capri to see some of the grottos and swim. I would book a boat ride in advance and some dinner reservations, especially if you want to eat in Capri town (Anacapri is much quieter).

Lastly, Rome

We left Capri and took the train from Naples to Rome and walked to our airbnb in the Monti neighborhood. This is a great area to stay as it is centrally located to a lot of the sights and monuments in Rome. We really only had one full day here with all of the travel days, and the plan was to see as much as we could squeeze in. We had tickets to see the Colosseum, and did plenty of walking to see everything else Rome as to offer.

I will definitely write an individual post/travel guide for each city we visited after I organize myself, so stay tuned!
