Packing Guide for Kauai, Hawaii – Honeymoon Edition

We went to Kauai in mid-September for our honeymoon and had an amazing time! I will definitely put together a travel guide, but today is my packing guide. I was able to pack everything into a carry-on because all the layers are pretty light. Hawaii is a casual destination so throw a couple bathing suits, a dress or two and you’ll be alright. Where we stayed had laundry which also helped in terms of being able to wear items multiple times. I also focused on white dresses, because honeymoon 😂.

Tops

  • Linen button down – I bring my white linen shirt on every warm weather trip I go on. They are so versatile, and can be worn as a beach cover-up or over a dress if you’re chilly.
  • T shirt – I wore a t shirt with a sweatshirt on top for travel days
  • Sweatshirt – it will most likely be very warm, even at night, no matter what time of year you’re in Hawaii, but I wore a sweatshirt on the plane, that way you have a layer if you need one.
  • Sports bra/workout tank top – if you are planning on working out or going on any hikes, bring a workout top.

Dresses

  • Workout dresses – I packed two and wore them to get coffee and breakfast. If you are planning on taking a helicopter ride they tell you to wear dark colors to reduce glare, so I wore a dark navy one.
  • Nicer dinner dresses – I brought 3 nicer dinner dresses. Hawaii is still pretty casual so these aren’t anything crazy.
  • Bathing suit cover-up – I brought 2 dresses that doubled as cover-ups.

Bottoms

  • Denim shorts – I wore denim shorts one or two days, but generally preferred dresses but it’s nice to have options
  • Workout bottoms – if you’re planning on working out or hiking.

Other

  • Bathing suits – I brought 4 different suits, but that might be overkill for some people. I would bring more than one so you can alternate suits on different days.
  • Sunhat/baseball hat – I brought both and I am glad I did. Very helpful if you’re sitting by the pool or beach.
  • Rash-guard – I highly recommend bringing a long sleeve rash-guard. Especially if you are doing a snorkel tour or surfing. This will prevent your back from being severely burned.
  • Sunglasses – self explanatory.
  • Mineral sunscreen – Please use mineral sunscreen as chemical ones cause coral bleaching.
  • Sandals – I don’t think you really need to bring heels, so my grecian white sandals were fine for all dinners
  • Gym shoes – for working out or hiking
  • Purses – beach bag, belt bag and nicer dinner bag
