What I’ve Read Recently – January 2023

Hello! I inadvertently took another break from posting and the time has gotten away from me. The plus side is that in not writing new posts, I have been reading a lot. My goal is to read 45 books this year and I am already off to a great start. Lots of different stuff this month – from fiction, to self help, there is something for everyone on this list I feel. Let’s get into it.

Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow – This is one of the most hyped book I have read in a long time. I felt like I saw this book everywhere, but had no idea what it is about. It circles around 3 friends creating a video game and all of the life events that follow. This is not a book I would normally have picked up, but I ended up really enjoying it. 4/5

Crying in H-Mart – This book is everywhere and for good reason. It made me laugh and cry. I also learned a good amount about Korean culture. Overall, really enjoyed this sort of coming of age, discovering oneself book. 4.5/5

Buy Yourself the F*cking Lilies – This is the most self-help-y book on this list, so if you don’t like that genre, skip this. I did overall enjoy this book. I found Tara to be a funny narrator and I liked some of the lessons/rituals she included. She had a horrible upbringing and this book is her unlearning her bad habits. 4/5

Conversations on Love – This isn’t quite a self-help book, but exactly as the title states, the author having conversations with other people all about love. I found some of this very interesting and it gives many different perspectives. Some stories I could have done without. Pick this up if you want an emotional read. 3.75/5

Smart Women Love Money – This is a purely finance book, but if you’re in the market to re-work your finances as part of your New Years Resoltions, this book is a great place to start. Each chapter breaks down different elements and all of the advice is actually helpful and goes way beyond the usual “skip your expensive Starbucks coffee.”

This Time Tomorrow – My mom recommended this book to my and it is also all over the best sellers list. It is a time traveling book about at a daughter who teleports back to her 16th birthday and all of the events that follow. Parts of this book required some suspension of disbelief, but overall I did enjoy it. 4/5

Atlas of the Heart – I’m vaguely familiar with Brené Brown but had never read any of her books so I figured I would check a few out to see how I liked them. I enjoyed this one. She includes interesting research on emotions and the design of the book is aesthetically pleasing as well with some pages having diagrams. Pick this up if you want to expand on her Ted Talk. 4/5.

What I’m Reading Next

Luckiest Girl Alive – I haven’t seen the Netflix movie yet so I figured I would read the book first. Looking forward to this one!
