Wedding Planning Update – Making a Registry

I haven’t done many posts about this, but I am getting married later this year! I am planning to do several posts about the planning process as we are planning it ourselves and I find it is very helpful to read about other people’s experiences. Today I am focusing on one of the easier parts of the planning process: making the registry. We already live together and have a lot of basics, so most of the items we added are either upgraded versions of things we already have or fun items that are “nice to have.” We live in an apartment, so we also had to take space into consideration. We don’t have room for a China set for 12 😂. We used the Knot for our registry, which allows you to integrate registries from other websites, as well as add items from their website. We registered at Amazon, West Elm and also added a few items from the Knot’s website. My number one tip is think about what items you really need and then where you will put them. If you are just starting out as a couple, you’ll probably need a lot of the basics. If you have been living together for years, you may want some fun items and a cash option for your honeymoon!

Both Amazon and The Knot have a formula for how many gifts at each price point they recommend based on the number of guests. I followed this loosely, but it is a good idea to have gifts at all price points, so people have options.

Here are some of the items from Amazon that I am most excited for:

Black and Decker Drill kit, outdoor pizza oven, tower warmer, Caraway pot and pan set, Kitchen aid Stand Mixer

I also did two cash funds: a honeymoon and then a New Home fund. The cash funds are a good option for some people who do not want to give a physical gift.

I also put some standard glassware items from West Elm that are upgrades of what we have now:

Low bowls and wine glasses.

Linen napkins and glasses.

Most stores also allow you to do in person registration. This is a good option if you want to see the physical items. We went into West Elm and looked around, but ended up doing all of the registration online.
