Workouts From Home

I am writing this from my apartment and I’m sure that you’re aware that we are in the midst of global pandemic. I haven’t really been able to write anything because everything feels upside down. Everything is closed here and writing about clothes or some other lifestyle topic seems not up to snuff for the moment.

But I realized that I would have to write something eventually and that I am enjoying reading other blogs right now. Some of the other blogs I read regularly have done a good job at acknowledging the current situation, but haven’t focused on it completely. And I think that is what I’m going to try and do.

So today’s post is about all the options for working out right now that doesn’t involve going to a gym or class. My gym is closed as well as most of the group workout classes. I enjoy working out and I also use it as a way to not worry about what else is going on in the world. So when my gym closed I knew I needed to continue working out and that I had to get creative.

When the weather is good, I’ve been going on runs. The problem is when the weather isn’t good. Recently the weather has been pretty chilly and rainy here. Thankfully, a lot of workout classes and apps have been offering free workouts. So on top of talking about the spin bike I ordered, I also complied a list of lots of the apps running free workouts right now (down below).

Sean and I have talked about getting an exercise bike before and the current closure of gyms have spurred us into buying one. We decided on this one from Amazon. It took us about an hour to assemble and there is also a helpful youtube video that walks you through it. We also got a mat to go under the bike so the floor wouldn’t get scratched up. The bike is a pretty good deal and I don’t have any complaints. It has a large stand for an iPhone or iPad as well.

I downloaded the Peloton app, which is free for 90 days right now, and have been using that for my workouts. This set up of the Amazon bike and Peloton app offers a similar Peloton bike experience for way less. The Peloton app has more the spin workouts as well and I recommend checking it out.

Here are a list of other free workouts right now that are worth checking out:

  • Shred 415 – workouts on their instagram and youtube
  • SoulCycle – list of instructors with workouts on their individual instagrams
  • Lululemon – variety of workouts including yoga and stretching
  • Orange Theory – videos of at home workouts uploaded daily
  • Barry’s – Twice daily workouts on their instagram page
  • Corepower Yoga – if you’re not a member they still have videos available
  • Peloton – download the app for a variety of different classes
  • Rumble – workouts on their instagram page uploaded daily
